Incorrect Emergency Alert Sent Out County-Wide
The Los Angeles County emergency alert system erroneously sent evacuation warnings across Los Angeles County, causing widespread confusion, with some residents potentially receiving repeated alerts. County officials confirmed that the initial alert sent just before 4 p.m. yesterday, January 9, was correct for only certain portions of the County adjacent to the Kenneth Fire (Calabasas, Agoura Hills and West Hills), but the system continues to distribute the message countywide.
There remains NO new evacuation warnings or orders in effect at this time on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The evacuation warning that was issued in August 2024 for the Portuguese Bend Community Association neighborhood in Rancho Palos Verdes due to electricity shutoffs related to land movement does remain in effect.
